(flickr) (CC BY 2.0)ACT Prep Class1- Academic, Health, & SafetyACT Prep Classes Advantage Educational Programs Grades 10-12 The ACT Preparatory Courses are designed for those who wish to improve their test-taking skills and their overall scores on the college entrance exams. The course includes diagnostic testing, strategies for answering questions in all testing areas, instruction in time management, essay writing, and more. Youth can choose to attend classes located at Farmington High School, online, or at other area schools. In-School Course Students preferring the traditional teaching format with an in-person instructor should choose this course. It consists of four, three-hour classes, meeting at a specific location, one day a week. Students who miss a class will be provided with access to recorded virtual online instruction. Tuition for the 12-hour ACT in-person course is $180, with all class materials included. Students can also repeat the course online at any time, until they graduate, free of charge. Virtual Course This course is designed for students who prefer to prep for the ACT in a virtual classroom. Four, three-hour classes are taught live via zoom by an Advantage instructor. Tuition for this course is $180. Internet connection and a computer or tablet is required. This course can also be repeated at no extra charge. Self-Paced Online Course This course is designed for students preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own schedule and at their own pace. Instruction is pre-recorded and provided online using videos and slides. Once enrolled, students may use the access code they receive to navigate through the course on their own timeline throughout the year. Tuition for this course is $80. Babysitter Training1- Academic, Health, & SafetyBabysitter Training MN CPR Ages 11 - 15 (Youth MUST be 11 years or older by date of class) This class is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid. Please bring a lunch! The Babysitter Training Certificate will be emailed out to participants a few weeks after the course is completed.2022/23 CE Catalog

Drivers Education (2022-2023)1- Academic, Health, & SafetyStudents may start classroom driving lessons at age 14, take the Knowledge Test and obtain their Instruction Permit at age 15, and take the Road Test and obtain their Provisional License at age 16. To be eligible to take the Road Test, students must have had their Instruction Permit for a minimum of six months. The Driver's Education Program is divided into two phases: Classroom Phase This phase includes the required 30 hours of classroom instruction that prepares the student to take the Minnesota permit test and to take on the responsibility of driving. If a lesson is missed, a make-up lesson can be arranged with the office at either the next Farmington session or at another A+ session. This portion can be taken virtually or in-person. Behind-the-Wheel Phase After students pass the permit test, they are required to complete six hours of driving lessons. The lessons are provided in three, two-hour lessons. The lessons are one-on-one instruction with instructors licensed through the MN Dept. of Public Safety. Students can be picked up from and dropped off at home, school or work. Detailed information about scheduling the behind-the-wheel lessons will be provided. Can't Make Every Lesson? If you miss a lesson, you are responsible for making up that exact lesson number. You can attend any A+ classroom or any community education program to make up a missed lesson. Please call A+ the office the day before so we can add the student to the attendance roster. Disclaimer: This contract expires 2 years from the first day of classroom training or when the student turns 18, whichever occurs first. All classes and BTW lessons must be completed before the expiration date. The Driver's Education program is offered as a package (classroom instruction & behind the wheel lessons) and cannot be separated. Fees (Starting April 2022) $420 per student includes classroom instruction, materials and behind-the-wheel training. Permit and road exam fees are not included. The option is also available to pay $210 at the time of registration and be charged the remaining $210 the first day of class. Driver’s Education Need Based Fee Assistance Families who are in need of assistance to cover this cost currently have 2 options for Fee Assistance Minnesota Afterschool Advance – 75% off Families who have a household income of $33,500 or less can receive an advance on their Minnesota Afterschool Tax Credit to pay for 75% of the cost of Drivers Education. So families will only have to pay $97.50 to register, and the rest will be paid out from the Minnesota After School tax credit when taxes are filed. Home Alone Training1- Academic, Health, & SafetyBrittany Hoppe Patricia Schmaltz Ages 7 years 6 months - 11 years Is your child ready to be home alone? Children should feel comfortable and safe when staying home alone, whether for an hour after school or several hours during the summer. Being trusted to stay home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class will address several topics relating to being home alone, including age guidelines, house rules, after school routines, activities they can do, safe habits, first aid, and more. Students attend this class independently. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child after class. Please have your child bring a water bottle. Virtual Coding Tournament Series1- Academic, Health, & SafetyCode Championship Grades 3-8 Build a computer bot to play head-to-head against other coders! Whether this is your first Code Championship event, or if you've been competing for years, this is the perfect way to explore the competitive coding world of Code Championship. No previous coding experience necessary. The Code Championship Series is a series of four tournaments in four weeks (it's ok to miss one or two). These tournaments will be hosted online using Google Meet and the Code Championship website. If you have a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox, no additional download is required.
