Math by Mail - Completed Grades 7-9 Brent Lackas & Tanya Ravnholdt For students who will complete grades 7-9 in the 2023-2024 school year Course materials will be sent out to participants in early June, or after your child registers, via email. No registrations accepted after June 30, 2024. Math-by-Mail is a summer opportunity to keep young minds active with this locally developed curriculum. Math practice accompanied by enrichment activities for the upcoming summer months. Created by current middle school math teachers with 50+ years of combined experience! Minnesota State Standards, Math Frameworks MCA strands, and current Minnesota Benchmarks are the foundational basis for this curriculum. With creative problem solving, multiple choice, short answer and vocabulary embedded into an 8-week course of independent study, students will maintain or increase the level of their math understanding, in addition to reviewing the recommended targets suggested by grade level in the Minnesota School Academic Standards for mathematics. Each student will be given a pretest to assess the appropriate skill level necessary to strengthen their individual math needs, unlike other programs that are exclusively grade level driven. Students will receive an 8-lesson packet to complete at their own pace throughout the summer. As students finish packets, they are mailed back for feedback and then returned to the students. All packets are due back by August 9 in order to provide timely feedback before the 2024 school year begins. Math-by-Mail is expanding its options to do math! How exciting! Not only are we offering our predetermined set of 8 packets, we will also offer an ala carte menu! Our added approach allows for individual choice regarding the skills and concepts students and parents can request to build math confidence. Still an 8 week course with a self paced approach! Student completed packets should be mailed (USPS) to Math-by-Mail. We will then provide feedback and return corrected packets to students via USPS. As always the goal of Math-by-Mail is to provide rich content to maintain mathematical understanding!
