Youth Self-Defense

Master Jeff Wood- Young Americans Schools of Self-Defense Ages 5-16 This class will empower youth ages 5 and older with non-aggressive skills and techniques to protect themselves from those who would attempt to do harm. This program also provides self-confidence, physical fitness, respect for authority, improved academic performance, and responsible citizenship. Master Jeff Wood Master Jeff has been a Martial Arts student continuously since September of 1964, studying multiple styles in the United States, Korea, Japan, and China. In 1981 he began his career as an instructor, and over the past 40 years has devoted himself to helping all his students achieve their highest potential in all aspects of their self-defense training. Drivers Education (2023-2024)

A+ Driving School Students may start classroom driving lessons at age 14, take the Knowledge Test and obtain their Instruction Permit at age 15, and take the Road Test and obtain their Provisional License at age 16. To be eligible to take the Road Test, students must have had their Instruction Permit for a minimum of six months. The Driver's Education Program is divided into two phases: Classroom Phase This phase includes the required 30 hours of classroom instruction that prepares the student to take the Minnesota permit test and to take on the responsibility of driving. If a lesson is missed, a make-up lesson can be arranged with the office at either the next Farmington session or at another A+ session. This portion can be taken virtually or in-person. Behind-the-Wheel Phase After students pass the permit test, they are required to complete six hours of driving lessons. The lessons are provided in three, two-hour lessons. The lessons are one-on-one instruction with instructors licensed through the MN Dept. of Public Safety. Students can be picked up from and dropped off at home, school or work. Detailed information about scheduling the behind-the-wheel lessons will be provided. Can't Make Every Lesson? If you miss a lesson, you are responsible for making up that exact lesson number. You can attend any A+ classroom or any community education program to make up a missed lesson. Please call A+ the office the day before so we can add the student to the attendance roster. Disclaimer: This contract expires 2 years from the first day of classroom training or when the student turns 18, whichever occurs first. All classes and BTW lessons must be completed before the expiration date. The Driver's Education program is offered as a package (classroom instruction & behind the wheel lessons) and cannot be separated. Fees $420 per student includes classroom instruction, materials and behind-the-wheel training. Permit and road exam fees are not included. The option is also available to pay $210 at the time of registration and be charged the remaining $210 the first day of class. Home Alone Training

Brittany Hoppe & Trish Schmaltz Ages 7 years 6 months - 11 years Is your child ready to be home alone? Children should feel comfortable and safe when staying home alone, whether for an hour after school or several hours during the summer. Being trusted to stay home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class will address several topics relating to being home alone, including age guidelines, house rules, after school routines, activities they can do, safe habits, and more. Students attend this class independently. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child after class. Please have your child bring a water bottle.

Babysitter Training

Sarah Erickson This 5-hour course is designed for youth ages 11-15. (Youth MUST be 11 years or older by date of class) Stand out against other babysitters with a Red Cross babysitting certificate! The Red Cross is the nation’s leader in babysitting classes and child care training – and will prepare you to become one of the most capable, trusted and in-demand sitters in your neighborhood. Red Cross babysitting courses are a great way to develop the necessary emergency and safety skills that parents are seeking. What you’ll learn: Basic care for infants and children, including Feeding, Handling and Diapering. Basic First Aid Child Behavior Age-Appropriate Activities Emergency Protocols Leadership and Professionalism Developing a Babysitting Business. Each participant will receive a Red Cross Babysitter Handbook. Upon completion each participant will receive a “digital diploma” which you can print and place in your portfolio or pull up anytime via QR code and confirm validity. ACT Prep Class
1- Academic, Health, & Safety

ACT Prep Classes Advantage Educational Programs Grades 10-12 The ACT Preparatory Courses are designed for those who wish to improve their test-taking skills and their overall scores on the college entrance exams. The course includes diagnostic testing, strategies for answering questions in all testing areas, instruction in time management, essay writing, and more. Youth can choose to attend classes located at Farmington High School, online, or at other area schools. In-School Course Students preferring the traditional teaching format with an in-person instructor should choose this course. It consists of four, three-hour classes, meeting at a specific location, one day a week. Students who miss a class will be provided with access to recorded virtual online instruction. Tuition for the 12-hour ACT in-person course is $180, with all class materials included. Students can also repeat the course online at any time, until they graduate, free of charge. To enroll at Farmington High School - returning Fall 2024 To enroll in an ACT course at another site - please visit https://advantageprep.net/ Once you are registered, you will be contacted by email or phone with your classroom assignment approximately 7-10 days before classes begin. Virtual Course This course is designed for students who prefer to prep for the ACT in a virtual classroom. Four, three-hour classes are taught live via zoom by an Advantage instructor. Tuition for this course is $180. Internet connection and a computer or tablet is required. This course can also be repeated at no extra charge. To enroll for the virtual course - select YS24-ACT925 Self-Paced Online Course This course is designed for students preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own schedule and at their own pace. Instruction is pre-recorded and provided online using videos and slides. Once enrolled, students may use the access code they receive to navigate through the course on their own timeline throughout the year. Tuition for this course is $80. To enroll for the online course - select YW24-ACTONLINE888. **Please note, students need a gmail account to access course information. School-issued email addresses are blocked. To create a free account click here. Once enrolled, students are sent an access code for their class via email and can begin preparing. Participants will receive more information regarding class access in their course registration confirmation. Online course materials are available at any time and are accessible for a full year, however, you can re-enroll to access the course again, free of charge.
