Become a master bricklayer and use our special architectural LEGO® kits to build your creations. Be an architect as you learn the principles of construction. The main goal of the course is to introduce the concept of 3 dimensions and their role in design. Working in teams, students will construct buildings, structures, towers, castles, and more. Students will learn construction principles and use math skills as they experiment with scale and size, staggering vs. stacking bricks, and more. We’ll build houses with removable roofs, castles with turrets, and towers of strength! It might just be impossible to exhaust the creative potential of LEGO® bricks. (flickr) (CC BY 2.0)ACT Prep Class1- Academic, Health, & SafetyACT Prep Classes Advantage Educational Programs Grades 10-12 The ACT Preparatory Courses are designed for those who wish to improve their test-taking skills and their overall scores on the college entrance exams. The course includes diagnostic testing, strategies for answering questions in all testing areas, instruction in time management, essay writing, and more. Youth can choose to attend classes located at Farmington High School, online, or at other area schools. In-School Course Students preferring the traditional teaching format with an in-person instructor should choose this course. It consists of four, three-hour classes, meeting at a specific location, one day a week. Students who miss a class will be provided with access to recorded virtual online instruction. Tuition for the 12-hour ACT in-person course is $150, with all class materials included. Students can also repeat the course online at any time, until they graduate, free of charge. Self-Paced Online Course This course is designed for students preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own schedule and at their own pace. AQAD-Adaptive Swim LessonsAquaticsThis program provides a safe learning environment for students with mild disabilities. While students follow the outlines from one of our swimming levels, modifications are made to strokes and skills as necessary. A specially designed hydraulic lift allows us to accommodate participants who have difficulty entering the pool on their own. Please contact the Aquatics Coordinator to discuss any special needs. This helps us prepare to teach the safest and most appropriate lessons possible. AQAK-Aqua Kids (parent & child)AquaticsAqua Kids is intended for 2, 3, and 4 year-olds that are new to swim lessons AND need to have an adult in the water with them. This class does not teach the children how to swim on their own. Its purpose is to familiarize participants with the water and teach some swimming readiness skills. It is intended to get the children comfortable in a swimming pool atmosphere and get them interested and excited about coming to lessons on their own. Parents will learn some holding and support techniques and learn how and when to use cueing techniques. Other skills range from water adjustment to movement in the water with support to some independent movement. Guided sessions help students (parent & child) learn some elementary skills including: water entry and exit; bubble blowing; bobbing; opening eyes under water; front and back floats; front and back glides; rolling over with assistance from the parent; arm & leg actions on their front; arm & leg actions on their back; life jackets; and more. An adult must be in the water with each student. We are following the guidelines given to us by the Department of Health and here are some things you need to know before arriving. AQBP-Bobbers / PreschoolAquaticsThis course is intended for 2, 3, and 4 year-olds that are new to swim lessons. This class is quite similar to Aqua Kids but is for children that are able to participate without the assistance from an adult. Skills Include: water entry and exit; bubble blowing; floats; glides; kicking; rolling over; life jackets; and more. Exit Skills Assessment:- 1. Enter independently using the steps or side; travel 5 yards; submerge to mouth and blow bubbles for 3-5 seconds; then safely exit the water. 2. While in shallow water, glide on front 2-3 body lengths then roll on back and float on back for 3-5 seconds; then recover to a vertical position. Prerequisites: ages 2 to 4 and comfortable in the water without assistance from an adult. Jump into deep water from the side; recover to the surface; maintain position by treading or floating for 60 seconds; level off and swim front crawl 25 yards; rest for 30-60 seconds and swim back crawl 25 yards; then exit the water. 2. Strokes Include: front crawl, elementary backstroke, back crawl, breaststroke, and sidestroke. Exit Skills Assessments:- 1. Perform a feet-first entry into deep water and swim front crawl for 25 yards and then swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards. 2. Swim breaststroke for 15 yards and then swim back crawl for 15 yards. 3. Submerge and swim a distance of 3-5 body lengths underwater without hyperventilating; return to the surface; then exit the water. AQL6-Level 6AquaticsThis course is ideal for participants that might be preparing for a competitive team or perhaps have completed Level-5 but are not able to take a/the lifeguarding course yet. Skills Include: HELP & huddle positions 2 minutes each; back float and survival float 5 minutes each; survival swimming 10 minutes; sculling feet-first and head-first; surface dives; race starts; open turns and flip turns; circle swimming; using a pace clock; swimming using equipment; and more. Strokes include: front crawl and elementary backstroke 100 yards each; back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly 50 yards each. AQSD-Springboard DivingAquaticsDevelop and improve basic skills required for springboard diving. Skills include: stretching exercises; approach and hurdle techniques; press and lift; forward jump–tuck position; forward dive–tuck position; and backward jump–tuck position. Additional skills and dives will be added as necessary for returning participants. Prerequisites: ability to comfortably swim 25 yards and do a head first dive from the edge of the pool.
