  • Backyard Birds Camp

    Tracy Crofoot Grades K-5 Backyard Birds camp is a great summer activity for your bird enthusiast! Campers will go on a journey of discovery and learn about Minnesota’s most common backyard bird species. They will learn about bird identification, habitats, diet, behavior, and migration. Weather permitting, campers will get ‘back to nature’ by venturing outside making their own observations and discoveries just like a naturalist! We will be taking a survey of local bird species and report our findings to local scientists. Campers will learn more about becoming a Citizen Scientist and how they can contribute to conservation too.
  • Podcasting & Digital Audio Production

    Mark Toutge Incoming grades 5-8 Podcasting is becoming one of the most popular ways for people to entertain their audience. Podcast listeners might have one of several reasons to subscribe to a podcast, such as to learn about a new topic or to learn a new skill. Students will write, record and produce several short podcasts during the week in the Farmington High School podcasting studio. Students will learn about microphone placement, the use of sound equipment and record their podcasts in a recording studio. All students should bring a blank flash drive to the camp so they can receive a copy of Podcast projects completed during the week.
  • Intro to Tennis Tykes

    DASH Sports Ages 4-7 DASH Sports Tennis Tykes camps provide participants with an introductory experience to the game in a fun and positive atmosphere. Emphasis is on technique and ball striking as well as gameplay. Basic elements of the serve, forehand, and backhand will be taught and practiced. Participants should bring a tennis racket, water bottle, athletic clothing. Parent participation is required for the 2-3yr old age group and recommended when needed for the 4+ year old age group.

    DASH Sports Incoming Grades 6-8 DASH Sports Summer Tennis camps provide participants with an introductory experience to the game in a fun and positive atmosphere. Emphasis is on technique and game play. Key elements of the serve, forehand groundstroke, backhand groundstroke, forehand volley, backhand volley, and the overhead smash will be taught and practiced. Camps ends with games on the final day. Participants should wear sunscreen and athletic clothing/shoes, and bring a tennis racket, water bottle, and a snack. Balls and all other equipment are provided.

We are here to help you being your journey into this great American pastime. We will provide baseball basics, such as catching, throwing, hitting techniques, base running, and fielding. We will explore some fun drills and key concepts that will help you grasp the fundamentals of the game. The last day will be a game day for participants! We’ll use paper mâché, clay, canvas, chalk, paint and more to create some fabulous art. Make a colorful paper mâché donut, sculpt some silly snails, learn how to make prints with your own print plate, paint a canvas, and more. Bring a beverage and a nut-free snack. Athletes will learn offensive and defensive fundamentals from varsity football coaches and players. Coaches will teach drills specific to linebackers, defensive backs, defensive line, receivers, running backs, offensive line, and quarterbacks. These camps will focus on player development while providing opportunities for athletes to compete and become better football players. Competition will be created through drills and specific passing situations that will allow the campers to put their newly formed skills to the test.     Destination Mars: Rocketry Course

    Youth Enrichment League {YEL!} Incoming Grades 2-5 Launch and watch your very own rocket speed 300 feet into the air! Then it is yours to take home! Students will make and take home multiple rockets of varying difficulty throughout this session. We will use these rockets and airplanes to investigate basic aeronautical concepts including: propulsion, thrust, lift, drag and more.     Alex Sommerfeld and FFA Students Incoming Grades 4-6 Sparks Veterinary Adventures is for incoming 4-6 grade students and is a beginner course into the world of veterinary medicine. Students will be introduced to animal handling and restraint, bandaging, suturing, injections, and nutrition. They will also have the opportunity to learn about basic anatomy/physiology, and diseases that are common in small animals. Participants should bring a water bottled and nut-free snack.

    Bryanna Nelson and FFA Students Incoming Grades 6-9 Do you ever wonder how your food gets on your plate? How about how the clothes you pick out in the morning get produced? In Farm to Table, we will explore plant food products like salad greens, salsa, and maple syrup, how to preserve the harvest with methods like canning and fermentation, animal production, wool and fiber production, and more! After taking this course, not only will you know how your food gets to your table and your clothes on your back, but you will also walk away with recipes and a guidebook on how to start and run a small homestead!   • Spanish Camp

    Ashley Boutelle and Lisa Bliss, FHS Spanish Teachers Incoming Grades K-5 Children will participate in fun activities, songs, and dances as well as games that encourage children to apply their new language skills. They will be exposed to various vocabulary such as foods, colors, greetings, commands, clothing, animals, and body parts. At the end of the camp, children will be provided with a hard copy of the vocab and grammar that was introduced as well as resources if they want to keep practicing at home. Please note that this is an interactive camp, not a formal pencil to paper class. Ashley has been a Spanish teacher for 11 years (8 years at FHS). She has also taught Spanish at the elementary level. She has her degree in Spanish K-12 and studied abroad in Costa Rica during college. Lisa has been teaching Spanish in Farmington for 16 years. She has her license in Elementary education and Spanish education. She studied abroad in Spain.
